Am I Suitable?

Unsure if you might be suitable for implants? Or maybe you've taken the brave step of seeking help, only to be told that dental implants aren't possible for you...

We can help!

We understand how devastating being told you're not suitable can be. Every week, we meet patients who have lost hope after being told they're not suitable. They come to us feeling defeated, believing they will never again enjoy the simple pleasures of biting into an apple, laughing without worry, or smiling confidently in family photos.

At New Life Teeth, we have successfully transformed thousands of smiles which other clinics have deemed "too complex" or  "unsuitable"  for treatment. Through our advanced techniques and expertise in complex cases, we have helped patients who were told they had too little bone, needed extensive bone grafting, have too complex medical histories or that dentures were their only option.

Today, these same patients are enjoying life with beautiful, fixed teeth that look, feel, and function exactly like natural ones do.

Even if you've been told the following...

"You don't have enough bone for implants"

At New Life Teeth our dental surgeons have the breadth and depth of experience to treat the most complex of cases.  In addition to bone grafting, we use advanced techniques such as zygomatic and pterygoid implants in order to secure safely and accurately your dental implants.

"You need a sinus lift"

We can treat you if you require sinus lift and we undertake this procedure. However, our innovative implant placement techniques can often avoid the need for sinus lifts, even in cases of significant upper jaw bone loss.

"Your gum disease makes you unsuitable"

Many of our patients have a  history of periodontal disease which has caused their dental issues. However, this does not disqualify you from full mouth dental implants treatment. Our team will assess your specific situation and develop an appropriate treatment plan to include hygiene appointments to improve your oral health prior to surgery. When performed by a suitably experienced dental surgeon, the full mouth dental implant procedure solves all the problems associated with periodontal disease as long as you practice good oral hygiene after your implants are placed.

"Your medical condition makes implants impossible"

We can treat the majority of patients who have the following health conditions:

Controlled Type 1 and Type 2 Diabetes
Bruxism
Osteoporosis
Autoimmune Disease
Cancer patients, other than those with a history of head and next cancer

Medical conditions which exclude your from full mouth dental implant treatment are:
Parkinson’s Disease
Mental health issues
Head and Neck Cancer

"You’ve smoked in the past, therefore we can’t treat you"

It is well known that smoking can affect implant success rates and we encourage all our patietns who are smoking to quit for the benefit of their revoery and their overall health. We work with our patients who have smoked or continue to smoke to develop appropriate treatment strategies. We often find that pateints who smoke quit after their surgery as they feel so much more confident and healthier.

"Dentures are your only option"

Professor Branemark, who invented the dental implant famously said that" no one should die with their teeth in a glass!" We believe this too and have successfully treated 1000s of patients who were told dentures were their only choice. Our techniques and expertise often make fixed implants possible, even in the most challenging of  cases.

How medical conditions can affect implants

We often hear concerns about how medical conditions might affect dental implant treatment. Here's what you need to know about common medical conditions and their impact on dental implant suitability:

Diabetes

  • How it affects treatment: : Diabetic patients can take longer for the implants to integrate with the bone. In some cases we may not immediately load the implants until they have healed and the patient will wear a temporary denture for a few weeks until we are confident that the implants have healed.

  • Can you have implants? Yes, if your HBa1C reading is under 50 and your condition is well monitored and controlled.

  • Our approach: We work with your medical team to ensure that your Diabetes is well controlled.

Osteoporosis

  • How it affects treatment:  Osteoporosis can affect bone density it and can take longer for the implants to integrate with the bone. In some cases we may not immediately load the implants until they have healed and the patient will wear a temporary denture for a few weeks until we are confident that the implants have healed.

  • Can you have implants? Yes if you are being actively treated by your GP.

  • Our approach: We work with your medical team to ensure that you condition is being actively treated. We also conduct detailed bone density assessments and adapt our surgical techniques accordingly.

Cancer Treatment History

  • How it affects treatment:  Previous radiotherapy can impact bone healing. However if your radiotherapy was anywhere other than your head and neck we can treat you

  • Can you have implants? Yes, with careful planning

  • Our approach: We develop specialised treatment protocols for post-cancer treatment patients, ensuring safe and predictable outcomes

Autoimmune Conditions

  • How it affects treatment: May impact healing and implant integration

  • Can you have implants? Yes, with proper disease management

  • Our approach: We work with your medical team to time treatment during periods of disease stability

Bruxism (Teeth Grinding)

  • How it affects treatment: Can place additional stress on implants

  • Can you have implants? Yes, with protective measures

FAQs about complex cases

Am I too old for dental implants?

Age itself is not a barrier to dental implants. We've successfully treated patients well into their 80s and 90s. What matters most is your overall health and bone quality, which we'll assess during your free clinical consultation.

How do you handle severe bone loss?

Unlike traditional approaches that require extensive bone grafting, we specialise in advanced techniques like zygomatic and pterygoid implants. These methods allow us to anchor implants in the dense bone of your cheekbone or pterygoid region, often eliminating the need for bone grafts.

Will my dental anxiety affect my suitability?

Not at all. We offer IV sedation at no extra cost for anxious patients. Our team is experienced in helping nervous patients through their treatment journey, and we provide comprehensive support through our private patient app.

Will my diabetes affect the success of my implants?

Well-controlled diabetes doesn't prevent successful implant treatment. We work closely with patients to ensure optimal blood sugar levels throughout the treatment process. During your assessment, we'll discuss how to manage your diabetes effectively for the best possible outcomes.

How long does the assessment process take?

Your initial free clinical assessment takes about an hour. During this time, we'll take CBCT scans, intra-oral scans, and facial photographs to thoroughly evaluate your case and provide you with a detailed treatment plan.

Are there any payment plans available?

Yes, we offer a range of flexible payment options to help make treatment more accessible. We can discuss these options during your consultation and help you find a plan that suits your budget.
